Metric Definition:

Total crashes is the number of reported public street crashes involving motor vehicles, bicyclists, or pedestrians. These crashes can be injury crashes or property damage only crashes.

Quarterly Performance:

There were 382 crashes reported in Quarter 1. This is a decrease from the previous quarter total (450), remains below the 3-year average (461) and is the lowest amount of crashes since Staff began recording data in 2013. The reported crashes in Centennial included a total of 21 injury crashes, 10 of which resulted in serious bodily injury. There were no fatal crashes in the first quarter of 2018.

The Traffic Safety Unit conducted a selective enforcement for each month focusing on high accident areas. Deputies are provided crash data so that they can conduct directed enforcement every day at morning and evening rush hours, as well as lunch hour traffic. DUI enforcement efforts resulted in 31 arrests in the City of Centennial during the third quarter.

The Sheriff’s Office participated in CDOT’s “Winter Blitz”, Super Bowl Weekend, and St. Patrick’s Day and “Spring Events” High Visibility Enforcement periods. In addition to targeted enforcement efforts, mild weather patterns with little snow to create poor driving conditions may have resulted in the lower number of crashes seen during the first quarter 2018.
