The City of Centennial's Finance Committees, as outlined in the City’s Home Rule Charter, exist to advise City Council on the financial matters of the City.

Each committee has citizen representation by those who possess relevant business experience. These committees are designed to address matters such as; making recommendations to City Council on the adoption and revision of City policies related to investing City funds, the review of annual audit documentation and the City’s internal control structure, and to make recommendations and reports to City Council regarding the phases of the annual budget process.

The Audit Committee, as described in Article XI, Section 11.16 of the City's Home Rule Charter, is responsible for periodically reviewing staff recommendations to select an auditor or auditing firm to perform the annual audit required by the Charter or other audit(s) that the City Council may request pursuant to the authority in the Charter. The Audit Committee reviews the findings and reports of such auditor(s) and presents the annual or other audit report(s) to the City Council.

The Budget Committee, as described in Article XI, Section 11.6 of the City’s Home Rule Charter, is responsible for studying all phases of the budget and making recommendations and reports to City Council about these studies. The Budget Committee is comprised of the Mayor, one Council Member, three citizen representatives, the City Manager and the Finance Director.

The Investment Committee, as described in Article XI, Section 11.16 of the City's Home Rule Charter makes recommendations to the City Council to ensure City funds are invested in accordance with Part 6 of Article 75 of Title 24, C.R.S., as may be amended from time to time, and sets policy for management of City funds to reach investment goals; routinely reviews the investment policy and makes recommendations to City Council for revisions when deemed necessary; receives reports from the City Finance Director on the performance of the City’s investments as measured against the investment policy; and periodically reports to the City Council on the performance of the City’s investments, which are publicized in accordance with an Ordinance adopted by the City Council.
